PRISON IN VENGER'S CASTLE

 DUSK
We hear Presto reading a letter as the movie begin.
During Presto's monologue, we see various views of things inside the prison,
including orc guards.

PRESTO
(VO) Dear Venger...We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole chance to get home
for whatever evil scheme you are plotting against the Realm .
Despite our pure motives, it WAS wrong of us to make fun of you so readily.
It probably wasn't nice for us to mock your cranial deformities in such a…pointed….manner.
Heh. Mm, Anyway, we think you're crazy to make us write this manuscript
(in BLOOD, no less!) telling you who we think we are. What do you care?
You see us as you want to see us...in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions.
You see us as a brain, an athlete, a preppie, a princess and a scoundrel, a boy and his unicorn.
Correct? That's the way we saw each other when we first came to this land.
We were brainwashed.

[beging flashback]

CUT TO: 2. INT. SHEILA'S HOUSE - DAY
We see SHEILA and her FATHER sitting in a well appointed living room, with leather couches
and postmodern paintings on the wall. SHEILA is quite beautiful, kind and generous.
Her resemblance to Molly Ringwald is entirely unfortunate,
because this means that she will have to whine a little bit more than she's used to.

SHEILA
I can't believe you can't get me out of this with mom.
I mean it's so absurd I have to take Bobby to the amusement park with me! It's MY school trip!
It's not like he can't go with his friends. Why do *I* always have to be the babysitter?

SHEILA'S FATHER
I'll make it up to you. Honey,
spending time with your brother can be as much fun as going to the park with your friends,
if you take the right attitude. Have a good day!

Sheila rolls her eyes, but gets up from the couch to collect her brother.

SHEILA (mumbles)
Sometimes I wish I could just disappear from here.

CUT TO:
3. INT. PRESTO'S CAR – DAY

We are in PRESTO’S car. His MOTHER is there and so is his little SISTER.
He is sort of a nerd.

PRESTO'S MOTHER
Is this the first time or the last time we do this?

PRESTO (upset)
Last...

PRESTO'S MOTHER
Well get in there and use the time to your advantage...

PRESTO
Mom, I want to go home and finish my calculus! This school trip thing is so lame.
Where is the "advantage" in me goofing off?

PRESTO'S MOTHER
Well mister, you figure out a way to enjoy yourself for a change.
Getting you to do anything nice and social is like pulling teeth.
Life is not just just a game of Dungeons and Dragons, you know!

PRESTO'S LITTLE SISTER (annoyingly)
Yeah!

PRESTO'S MOTHER
Well go!

Presto gets out of the car and walks towards the amusement park, glumly.

CUT TO:
4. INT. HANK'S HOUSE- DAY
We see HANK and his FATHER. Hank is clearly a preppy jock;
he’s wearing a letterman’s jacket with lots of patches on it. And Gap-perfect khakis.

HANK'S FATHER
Hey, I screwed around...why don't you sow some wild oats and all that?
You're only young once, my boy. Stop being so damn responsible all the time. Loosen up.
You're a child of the 60's, damnit. Act like it!
Don't make me start calling you a Republican.

HANK
Yeah, Mom already reamed me, all right?
No way are you going to make me quit the debate team.

HANK'S FATHER (angry)
You are selling out to the man! You wanna destroy the environment next, tough guy?
Now, no rock band is gonna to take you on as a lead guitarist with those kind of conformist attitudes.
You go to that school outing and loosen up, or I *swear* this family is going to the Grand Canyon this summer
where we will go to Navajo tribal ceremonies every night.
Every night, until you purify your goddamn repressed soul.

Hank gets out of the car and walks into the school.

CUT TO: 5. EXT. SIX FLAGS PARKING LOT – DAY

We see ERIC walking towards us. He is wearing sunglasses.
A car is coming towards him but he doesn't stop walking. The car slams on its breaks directly
in front of him. Eric gets out of the frame. Out of the car steps DIANA.
She is dressed all in Nike athletic wear.
She steps forward to look in the car's front window and the car drives away.
Diana looks around for a moment, sees Eric sauntering towards the park, and arches an eyebrow.

DIANA
How interesting. It's not everyday I get to witness the spectacle of a rich burnout
deigning to spend time with the masses.

ERIC(shrugs)
It's an off day, I guess.

DIANA
Life's a bitch.

ERIC
And so are…ahh.never mind. Um, after you?

DIANA (grinning)
And some say chivalry is dead.

[end flashback]

CUT TO: 6. INT. PRISON – MORNING

For a prison, it's quite spacious and well appointed.
Rather suspiciously like a library, but with no books. There are six benches,
in two rows of three. Sheila is sitting at the front table, legs crossed primly,
Bobby is in the corner, snoring. Presto is brought in by some orcs,
and sits at the table behind her. Hank struggles as the orcs push him in the cell,
but when they slam the door, he looks around calmly and points at the chair next to Sheila at the front table.
She shrugs and he sits there.

In saunters Eric, pretending that he doesn't have spears jabbed directly into his back.
He looks over everything with a cool eye and pockets some prison candy in the process,
and then walks over to where Presto is sitting and points to the table on the opposite side of the prison.
Presto reluctantly gets up and moves.
Eric sits at the table where Presto was and puts his feet up.

Diana walks in. She walks all the way around the library and sits in the back corner table,
just behind Presto. Hank and Sheila look at each other with compassionate concern
for the young mage, and then recall that unfortunate Ringwald connection, so they snicker (but halfheartedly).
Presto looks at her in confusion and then turns away.

Enter VENGER, archnemesis. He holds a stack of papyrus in his left hand.
He addresses the group with such disrespect it makes you realize that villians like him are a rare find,
and ought to be treasured.

VENGER
Well...well. Here we are!
I want to congratulate you for falling for my trap so readily…..

Sheila raises her hand.

SHEILA
Excuse me, sir? I think there's been a mistake.
I know it's your time to gloat and punish us and all that, but...um...
don't you have a crush on me or something?
Maybe I can be spared the tedious details, just for today?

Venger doesn't care. He just continues to talk.

VENGER
It is now 6 cycles past dawn.
You have exactly until the sun touches the Western Tower to think about why you're here.
To ponder the error of your ways... To tell me where you hid your weapons.
If you don't reveal this, the little barbarian will not live to see another such sunset.

Venger snaps his fingers, and the orcs come in the celland seize Bobby from his corner,
dragging him out of the cell. Uni slips out the door with him, braying loudly.

Eric whistles mockingly, but his face also turns pale.
He is more concerned then he pretends to be. Sheila looks like she is going to vomit.

VENGER
...and don't do anything foolish. You will not move from this room.

He glances up at Eric and points at him.

VENGER
...and you...

Venger pulls the chair out from under Eric's feet.

VENGER
...will not mock me.
All right, Young Ones, we're gonna try something a little different today.
We are going to write a statement--of no less than a thousand words—
describing to me who you think you are.
And while you are at it, a few words worshiping my glorious self would help moderate your fate.
Here's a quill, and here's some paper.

ERIC
Is this a test? And where's the ink?

Venger passes out paper and quills and takes no notice of Eric.

VENGER
And when I say statement...I mean statement.
I do not mean a single word repeated a thousand times. Is that clear Cavalier?

Eric looks up.

ERIC
Crystal...

VENGER
Good. Maybe you'll learn a little something about how futile it is to cross me.
Maybe you'll even decide whether or not you care to save your pitiful lives,
as well as that of your young companion.

Presto raises his hand and then stands.

PRESTO
You know, I can answer that right now sir...
That'd be "Yes", yes for me. But we'll save our lives without cowing to your threats!
Dungeon Master will save us!

VENGER
Sit down Magician...

PRESTO
Um, Yes sir .

He sits.

VENGER
My minions….

Vernon points.

VENGER
...are right across that hall. Any monkey business is ill-advised...

He looks around at them.

VENGER
…any questions?

ERIC
Yeah...I got a question.

Venger looks at him suspiciously.

ERIC
Does Bea Arthur know you raid her wardrobe?

VENGER
I'll give you the answer to that question, Cavalier, tomorrow when I strap you to the rack personally.
Don't mess with the dragon, young man, you'll get scorched.

Venger leaves.
